Generally, Yes. 


The fee for a 50 minute session with a psychologist at Perception Psychology Mackay is $210. NB: The Australian Psychological Society (APS) recommended fee for a standard 46-60 minute session with a psychologist is $280.  


  • If a client has a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) they will receive a Medicare Rebate of $89.65.  The out-of-pocket cost, with a MHCP is $120.35 per session. A Mental Health Care Plan is completed by a GP and allows clients to access up to ten (10) session per calendar year. 
  • If a client has eligible NDIS funding the client will be billed the NDIS rate for their attendance with a psychologist. There is no out-of-pocket cost. 
  • If a client is attending under a third-party-payer, for example, Workcover, Priority1, etc., the third-party will be billed their identified rate for the client's attendance with a psychologist. There is no out-of-pocket cost. 
  • Clients with eligible private health cover may receive a rebate from their private health fund. The out-of-pocket cost will depend on the health fund. 
  • Perception Psychology Mackay does offer a sliding fee scale dependent on the client's financial situation - this is determined via discussion with your clinician. 


 The fee for 50 minute session with a provisional psychologist at Perception Psychology Mackay is $130.

  • Even if a client has a MHCP, as Provisional Psychologists are not yet eligible for a Medicare Provider number, there is no Medicare rebate. Perception Psychology Mackay has set the fee to reflect a similar out-of-pocket cost for seeing a registered psychologist under a MHCP.  
  • If a client has eligible NDIS funding the client will be billed the NDIS rate for their attendance with a provisional psychologist. There is no out-of-pocket cost. 
  • Clients with eligible private health cover may receive a rebate from their private health fund. The out-of-pocket cost will depend on the health fund - you will need to check with your fund for more information.
  • NB: Provisional Psychologists have completed 4-5 years of university and are undertaking an internship to complete their training as a psychologist.  They receive formal supervision and training throughout their internship, and are supervised on site by our Principal Psychologist, Kat Dunn. 


 The fee for 50 minute session with a therapy assistant and/or counsellor at Perception Psychology Mackay is $110.

  • Even if a client has a MHCP, a therapy assistant/counsellor is not eligible for a Medicare Provider number, so there is no Medicare rebate. Perception Psychology Mackay has set the fee to reflect an amount less than the out-of-pocket cost for seeing a registered psychologist under a MHCP.  
  • If a client has eligible NDIS funding the client will be billed the NDIS rate for their attendance with a Therapy  Assistant. There is no out-of-pocket cost. 
  • Clients with eligible private health cover may receive a rebate from their private health fund. The out-of-pocket cost will depend on the health fund - you will need to check with your fund for more information. 
  • NB: Provisional Psychologists have completed 3-4 years of university and are undertaking further study/pursuing training as a psychologist.  Therapy Assistants/Counsellors are supervised on site by our Principal Psychologist, Kat Dunn. 


Because of the various types of assessments, and innumerous different presentations of clients, we cannot offer a standard answer to this question.  


Any client attending for an assessment is provided a quote for the cost of completing the required assessment after their initial appointment. The quote will outline how many appointments will be required and the cost of completing an assessment report.
